On the occasion of the 8th of March, which commemorates International Women’s Day, the Venezuelan singer Cecilia Todd will give a concert at 5 p.m. in the Simón Bolívar Hall of Casa América entitled Cantares de la Tierra (Songs of the Earth).
At the end of the 1960s and beginning of the 1970s, a movement of songs of conscience arose in Latin America that took on different names: Nueva Trova, Nueva Canción, Canción Protesta and Canción necesaria. In this dream of renewal, with deep musical roots of the people, with a noble poetry that vindicates the word as a humanistic value, Cecilia Todd, from Venezuela, bursts forth with her beautiful, diaphanous song, imbricated with the popular soul.
Cecilia investigates with the gaze of nostalgia and deep-rootedness, which leads her to share her musical knowledge with the emblematic voices of Latin America such as: Simón Díaz, Mercedes Sosa, Pablo Milanés, Silvio Rodríguez, Vicente Feliú, Chico Buarque, Marta Gómez, Liuba María Hevia and so many other gurus of the Latin American popular heritage.
Luis Prados, Director of Programming at Casa de América, will give a welcoming speech, followed by the participation of Coromoto Godoy Calderón, Ambassador Designate of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Admission by registration at ceciliatoddenmadrid@gmail.com.
