The Governments of Spain and Portugal launched yesterday the Spain-Portugal Cross-Border Cooperation Network (REDCOT), as agreed at the XXXIII Spanish-Portuguese Summit, held last November in the Portuguese town of Viana do Castelo.
The act of constitution of the Network took place at the Museo Nacional dos Coches in Lisbon, with the intervention of the Minister of Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez, and the Portuguese Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa.
“Today in Lisbon we fulfill what was promised at the Spanish-Portuguese Summit and promote collaboration with the Portuguese-Spanish network of entities promoting Cross-Border Territorial Cooperation,” said Rodriguez through her official Twitter account. “La Raya is synonymous with cooperation and exchange,” she assured.
During the Viana de Castelo Summit, Spain and Portugal highlighted the progress made in the implementation of the Common Cross-Border Development Strategy (ECDT), approved at the XXXI Spanish-Portuguese Summit, in Guarda, and pledged to strengthen cooperation to promote cross-border territories, with the aim of repopulating and attracting new demographic profiles.
On the other hand, in September, Vila Nova de Gaia (Portugal) hosted the XIV Meeting of the Spanish-Portuguese Commission for Cross-Border Cooperation, which was created in 2006 in compliance with the Treaty of Valencia between the Kingdom of Spain and the Portuguese Republic, signed in 2002 and in force since 2004.
