The European Union will increase the capacity of its training mission for Ukrainian troops and aims to train 30,000 soldiers, in a push to double the initial capacity of the operation set up last October to help the Ukrainian army fight Russian aggression over the next two years.

European sources confirmed this announcement, which will be made official tomorrow when the college of commissioners travels to Kiev, led by President Ursula von der Leyen, for a face-to-face meeting with the Ukrainian government. The day after, an EU-Ukraine summit will take place in the presence of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.

In this way, the EU will redouble its military assistance mission to Ukraine (EUAM) and double the mission’s objectives, including training Ukrainian soldiers in systems such as the Western Leopard tanks that countries such as Germany, Poland and Spain have pledged to supply.
