Dominican Republic Embassy celebrates Month of the Homeland

February 21, 2023
in Culture & Art, Leisure

In the framework of the Month of the Homeland, the Embassy of the Dominican Republic has organized four activities to commemorate the 179th Anniversary of Dominican Independence and thus continue to raise patriotic sentiment in the Dominican community living in Spain.

The first activity took place on February 16, with the screening of the Dominican film Cabarete, by director Iván Bordas, the story of a teenage kitesurfer from the Dominican Republic who sets out to compete professionally in the coastal town of Cabarete, but soon gets caught up in an endless stream of parties that try to keep him away from the best of him.

On Thursday 23 February at 19.30 h, the conference The Exemplary Life of Juan Pablo Duarte, by the Dominican historian Orlando Inoa, will be held at the Nebrija University, located at Calle Santa Cruz de Marcenado, 27.

Likewise, on Saturday 25 February, the Gran Fiesta Nacional will take place with a concert by the Dominican singer Diomary La Mala, who will perform the most emblematic songs of the Dominican songbook. The event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Moncloa, located in Plaza Moncloa, s/n. Admission is free until full capacity is reached, both for the concert and the conference.

As an official act and final event of the agenda of the Month of the Homeland, a floral offering and guard of honour will be held at the bust of Juan Pablo Duarte, on Monday 27 February at 10 a.m. in Paseo de Camoens, s/n, Parque del Oeste.
