The new season of concerts organised by the Centro Cultural of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, in collaboration with the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando will begin next Thursday 2 March in the auditorium of the Academy with a concert by the Korean cellist Hayoung Choi, winner in 2022 of the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium.

The cellist will be accompanied by the Norwegian pianist Joachim Carr, who will perform works by Stravinsky (Suite italienne) and Rachmaninov (Sonata for cello and piano, op. 19), contemporary musicians with different musical languages. Among others, the programme offers three 20th century works: Dialogue by Giacianto Scelsi (1905-1988), the Sonata in C major, op.65 by Benjamin Britten (1913-1976), and Grave or Metamorphosis, by the master Witold Lutoslawski (1913-1994). Admission is free until full capacity is reached.

The Ciclo de Música Clásica Corea is a programme founded in 2018 with the aim of increasing the popularity of Korean performers in Europe. It is therefore attended by Korean artists who, every year, give concerts in Spain. The director of the Korean Cultural Centre in Spain, Jihoon Oh, has highlighted “the enormous quality of the performers, especially the expressiveness, and the great charisma and technique of Hayoung Choi, and the growing demand for Korean performers of classical music by the Spanish public.”

The second concert of the Classical Music Series Korea 2023 will be held in September with a recital by Korean violinist Sueye Park at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. More information on the concert and on the activities of the Korean Culture Centre on its website.
