The Diplomat
On the 8th and 9th Madrid will host the sixth edition of the International Congress of Media Editors European Union-Latin America, an event organised by Prestomedia Grupo, which will be attended by some of the most important journalists from both regions and will have as its special guest Sevğil Msayeva, editor of Ukrainska Pravda, the most widely distributed media in Ukraine.
The Congress is supported by the European Commission and the European Parliament, Iberia, Telefónica, and the Community of Madrid, as well as the collaboration of the Rey Juan Carlos University and Casa de América.
During these days, Madrid will be the setting for a debate aimed at discovering the views of media professionals from both continents on issues that concern them both.
After the success of previous editions, this time, due to the infodemic, “fake news” or infoxication, in the midst of the economic crisis resulting from the war in Ukraine, and with the irruption of artificial intelligence, the Congress will be held under the slogan: “How to build a new model of sustainable communication?”. The aim is to contribute to peace, democracy, transparency and the circular economy.
The Congress will feature the testimony of Sevğil Musayeva, editor of Ukrainska Pravda, one of the most important professionals on the Ukrainian journalistic scene, to learn first-hand about the reality that is being experienced in the conflict zone. Musayeva has been included in Forbes magazine’s list of the 100 most influential women in the world in 2022.
Casa de América, the venue for the Congress and whose commitment to the bridge between Europe and Latin America is its raison d’être, will host fifty communication figures from both sides of the Atlantic, from media such as ‘Clarín’ and ‘La Nación’, from Argentina; ‘La Razón’, from Bolivia; the Folha Group, from Brazil; ‘El Mercurio’, from Chile; ‘El Tiempo’ and ‘La República’, from Colombia; the Extra Group from Costa Rica; ‘La Reforma’ and the Milenio Group, from Mexico; the ‘Estrella’ and ‘La Prensa’ in Panama; ‘ABC Color’ in Paraguay; ‘El Universal’ in Venezuela; Albavisión in Miami; the Germans ‘Axel Springer’ and ‘Die Welt’; Agence Europe and ‘Aquí Europa’ in Brussels; Il Floglio’, ‘Il Sole 24 Ore’ and ‘Rai’ in Italy; ‘Gazeta Wyborcza’ in Poland; ‘Jornal de Noticias’ and ‘Radio TSF’ in Portugal; and the Spanish media Efe, Europa Press, El Mundo and ‘The Diplomat in Spain’, among others.
As in all editions, the Congress will be attended by important representatives of European and national institutions.
