The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, received yesterday in Madrid the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia, Rogelio Mayta, with whom he discussed relations between the EU and Latin America in view of the upcoming Spanish Presidency of the Council of the Union and with whom he signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Diplomatic Schools of the two countries.

“I have received in Madrid my Bolivian counterpart, Rogelio Mayta, to go over Spain-Bolivia bilateral relations,” Albares stated through his official Twitter account. “We also addressed EU-Latin America relations in view of the upcoming Spanish Presidency of the EU, and the main challenges in the region,” he added. The meeting took place at the ministerial headquarters of the Palacio de Viana.

Mayta’s working visit to Spain began yesterday with a meeting with the Ibero-American Secretary General (SEGIB), Andrés Allamand, with whom he discussed Bolivia’s participation in the next Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, which will take place next March in the Dominican Republic.

Later, he had a working lunch with José Manuel Albares, with whom he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Plurinational Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Plurinational State of Bolivia and the Diplomatic School of Spain, according to the Bolivian Foreign Ministry in a press release.

Mayta also held meetings with representatives of the main political organizations in Spain. Before ending his trip in Madrid, he visited the headquarters of the Casa de América, where “Bolivia will develop a remarkable cultural agenda in the coming months”. The visit is part of a tour of different countries of the European Union that includes Brussels, the UN headquarters in Geneva and the Vatican City, where he was received by Pope Francis.
