Next Wednesday 8th February at 19.30, the Fundación Excelentia presents one of the most emblematic works of classical music: Carmina Burana, by Carl Orff (pictured), at the Symphonic Hall of the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid.
The Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia, together with the Sociedad Coral Excelentia de Madrid, will perform this famous and intriguing piece under the baton of Kynan Johns, with the participation of the soprano Rocío Martínez and the baritone Manuel Más. Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloé will also be performed.
Carmina Burana talks about how people’s destiny is governed by the whims of fortune. Therefore, in the face of such an unpredictable future, the smartest thing to do is to enjoy it while you can. In the play, the baritone invites to enjoy carnal pleasures during the bright springtime and one of the choruses warns about the danger of excesses and how inside a cantina everyone is waiting for the opportunity to steal from the other. And so Carmina Burana moves forward: its sound always exists in risk and constantly explores sensual contrasts. For example, between the tenor’s solo passages (where he narrates from the voice of a dead swan how he used to be beautiful and one day was eaten) and the soprano (who embodies a girl who longs for a present, creative and tender love).
