On the occasion of the delivery of his Letters of Credence, last 23 January, Ambassador Juraj Tomaga yesterday offered a wine of honor reception at the headquarters of the Slovak diplomatic mission, during which he took the opportunity to express his wish that relations with Spain continue to grow.

During the reception, the ambassador took the opportunity to bid farewell to the hitherto consul Beatrice Szaboova, of whom he highlighted “the great work she has done” and her “human and professional quality”. At the same time, he welcomed the new consul, Dana Zacharova, “who is coming for the third time and who will be a very good consul”.

Tomaga recalled that this year will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Slovakia and Spain, which he considered “will be a good time to hold some important events. Among them, he said he hoped that the Slovak President, Zuzana Čaputová, would be able to visit Spain.

In a brief review of bilateral relations, the head of the Slovak Mission welcomed the fact that economic cooperation between the two countries has been growing steadily in recent years. “And I hope that it will continue to do so,” he said, “just as I hope that it will also grow in the strategic field. In this regard, he reported that representatives of the Spanish company ENUSA are in Slovakia exploring ways of cooperation in the production of fuel for nuclear plants, “which would make Spain a real strategic partner for us”.

Finally, he encouraged the companies to “capitalise” on the investment effort made since 1993, “in money and human quality”, for the promotion of Spanish in Slovakia. “Thanks to this”, he said, “since then, seven bilingual schools have been opened from which 1,200 Spanish-speaking students leave every year”. “Investors who want to establish themselves in Slovakia can count on this”, he concluded.
