The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, took advantage of his trip to Nigeria last Thursday to present the posthumous award granted by the Spanish Government to the Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, Ademola Seriki, who died last December 15, in Madrid, at the age of 63.

On behalf of His Majesty the King, Albares presented the award to the ambassador’s wife and son, in the presence of the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama.

Onyeama explained that the distinction was in recognition of Ademola Seriki’s “hard work and tenacity” in promoting bilateral relations between the two countries. He also highlighted the dynamism and passion that the late ambassador put into his work, and who played an important role in strengthening a relationship that led to the visit of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to Spain in 2022.

The minister thanked the Spanish government for the award given to Seriki, noting that it is a sign not only of recognition of his work, but also of “appreciation for his personal and human qualities”.
