The Government of Spain yesterday expressed its support for the Government of Pakistan in its fight against terrorism following the attack on a mosque in Peshawar, which left more than 40 people dead and around 150 injured.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Spanish government strongly condemns the attack, conveys its condolences to the families of the dead and to all the victims, and wishes a speedy and full recovery to the injured.
“Spain reiterates its support for the Government of Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and reaffirms its commitment to peace and security in that country”, the text stresses.
More than 40 people have been killed and around 150 injured in a suicide attack perpetrated yesterday by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known as the Pakistani Taliban, inside a mosque in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, capital of the province of Jiber Pakhtunkhwa (north).
Specifically, medical sources quoted by the newspaper ‘Dawn’ last night spoke of at least 44 dead and 157 injured, although it is not ruled out that the figure could rise due to the seriousness of some of the injured and the fact that there are still people buried under the rubble of the building.
Among the dead was the imam of the Sahibzada Nurulamin mosque, as confirmed by the police. The suicide bomber had been in the front row during a prayer service at the mosque before setting off the explosive charge he was carrying, after which the TTP issued a statement on its propaganda channels claiming he was a member of the group.
