On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the great Italian writer Giorgio Manganelli and the 140th anniversary of the publication of Collodi’s Pinocchio, the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in Madrid, in collaboration with the Universidad Complutense, is hosting tomorrow at 18.30 a lecture by Professor Marco A. Bazzocchi entitled Manganelli’s Pinocchio.
The question Who is Pinocchio? cannot be answered in a single sentence. Pinocchio is wood, tree, forest, but also child, son, trickster, liar, animal. Collodi’s tale is a dream made of fears and escapes, of exaltation and tears. Giorgio Manganelli, a complex and visionary writer, wrote Pinocchio. A parallel book that is perhaps his most beautiful book.
Manganelli will take us on a journey into Pinocchio and into ourselves. Because Collodi wrote a book that speaks to all times, a book that tells how we become adults. Or perhaps how to remain a child. The event will be in Italian with simultaneous translation. Free admission with prior reservation at this link.
