The Romanian Ambassador to Spain, George Bologan, visited the Senate yesterday, where he was received by the First Vice-President of the Upper House, Cristina Narbona, who reiterated Spain’s support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area.
According to a note from the Romanian Embassy, Narbona indicated that Romania’s entry into Schengen is “a legitimate wish of our country, which Spain will continue to actively support, also from the perspective of strengthening European unity”.
The Romanian community in Spain also played an important role in the conversation, to which the First Vice-President of the Senate expressed her appreciation, while also expressing her satisfaction at the agreement on the creation of a working group for the granting of dual nationality.
The meeting also discussed the need for citizens’ confidence in the European Union to be strengthened through closer cooperation between Member States and an educational effort to explain the importance of the European project, in which national parliaments play a key role.
“The excellent relationship between Romania and Spain is reflected both in the intense political and diplomatic dialogue, which highlighted the holding of the first Joint Government Meeting in November 2022, and in the human and cultural links, the shared interests at EU and NATO level and the very good cooperation in areas such as social, defence and home affairs,” recalls the Embassy’s note.
