The Teatro Bellas Artes in Madrid (Calle del Marqués de Casa Riera, 2) is staging until 2 April the premiere of the famous anti-war text by Miguel Delibes Las guerras de nuestros antepasados (The wars of our ancestors), directed by Claudio Tolcachir and performed by actors Carmelo Gómez and Miguel Hermoso.
The Pérez family is one of many families that lived through some of the many wars of the past. The bisa, the abu and father of any house in rural Spain that Delibes reconstructs in this anti-war text published in 1975 and adapted, on this occasion, by Eduardo Galán. War becomes the undisputed protagonist since, as the main character quotes in one of his first speeches at the beginning of the play: “we all have a war just as we all have a woman”. In the end, war is universal and shares themes common to all wars, such as violence, suffering, freedom, forgiveness and guilt. Tickets can be purchased here.
