Kazakhstan’s President Kasim-Yomart Tokayev has appointed diplomat Danat Mussayev as his new ambassador to Spain.

Mussayev will replace Konstantin Zhigalov, who arrived in our country in September 2018.

The new ambassador knows Spain well, as he was posted in our country between 2014 and 2020, first as a counsellor at the Kazakh Embassy in Madrid and then as his country’s consul in Barcelona, where he was very active.

Spain and Kazakhstan have always maintained a good relationship, although exchanges of high-level visits have been rare. Recently, after a visit to Madrid to take part in a round of bilateral political consultations, Kazakhstan’s deputy foreign minister, Roman Vassilenko, announced that the Spanish foreign minister, José Manuel Albares, would travel to Kazakhstan in 2023, although he did not specify when.
