From 23 to 25 January, the Han-ul Gallery of the Centro Cultural Coreano in Madrid (Paseo de la Castellana, 15) presents the event Seollal Party 2023, celebrating the Korean New Year according to the lunar calendar. Admission is free.
Seollal’ refers to the first day of the lunar calendar, one of the most important traditional days in Korea. The New Year’s Day festivities last for 3 days and many people return to their hometowns to visit their parents and relatives, where they perform an ancestral ritual, bow to their elders and enjoy playing various traditional games such as Yutnori, Cheguichagui, kite flying, etc.
People who come to the Centre will be able to experience the traditional Korean lifestyle at the Centre’s Han-ul Gallery, which will feature two interior spaces of a Hanok or Traditional Korean House: ‘Anbang’, ‘Sarangbang’, for women and men respectively, as well as the Ondol, Korea’s oldest heating system dating back to the Three Kingdoms period (4th century) and still in operation today.
In addition, a series of traditional Korean events have been organised to bring Korean culture and a better understanding of Korean culture and the Seollal or Korean New Year. Participants in these games will receive a gift from the Centre and taste Korean drinks and biscuits.
