The Diplomat
The social networks were full of criticism yesterday of the former Minister of Education and current Spanish Ambassador to the Holy See, Isabel Celáa, for her dress during the reception for the Spanish delegation that went to Rome to attend the funeral honours for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.
Criticism focused on the fact that Celáa received Queen Sofía, the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, and the President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference and Archbishop of Barcelona, Juan José Omella, among other religious authorities, on Wednesday at the Spanish Embassy, dressed in a purple jacket and white trousers.
While the ambassador did not follow the protocol that seemed more appropriate for that moment, Doña Sofía was dressed in rigorous black mourning and the Minister of the Presidency wore a dark tie.
Celáa, however, did not wear white to the actual funeral of Benedict XVI on Thursday.
