Starring Karin Viard and Grégory Gadebois, tomorrow Wednesday sees the premiere of the tender and optimistic French comedy El despertar de María (Maria rêve), with a powerful and empowering message, which reminds us that it is never too late to make our dreams come true, no matter how long they have been dormant inside us.
A story that also talks about the beauty of small things and small gestures. How by making the lives of others more beautiful, our own lives are filled with colour. And about the transforming capacity of art. Set in a school of Fine Arts in Paris, the film takes us to a place where freedom and creativity invite us to forget our prejudices and let life surprise us, as it surprises Maria, a shy and timid woman who, after 50, rediscovers a world full of possibilities and finally takes control of her life.
When Maria gets a job on the cleaning staff of the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, her life is turned upside down. She immediately hits it off with Hubert, the school’s eccentric caretaker, who is obsessed with mastering Elvis Presley’s iconic dance moves. The bond that grows between them breaks Maria’s loneliness, as she rediscovers herself and a new world of emotions. Will she dare to leave everything behind to enjoy life and love to the fullest?
