The Council of Ministers authorized this past Tuesday two grants of a maximum total of three million euros, charged to the Fund for the Promotion of Development (FONPRODE), to assist in the management of coastal sanitation and waste management programs in the Dominican Republic.
On the one hand, the Council of Ministers authorized a maximum grant of two million euros for technical assistance linked to the credit operation for the financing of the Universal Sanitation Program in Coastal and Tourist Localities of the Dominican Republic.
The purpose of this operation is to contribute to capacity building for inclusive and sustainable sanitation in coastal localities in the Dominican Republic, strengthen the institutional capacity of the Dominican National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (INAPA), and complement the actions financed under the Universal Sanitation Program for Coastal and Tourist Localities in the Dominican Republic.
The purpose of this grant is to finance a connectivity project for vulnerable households and public buildings (schools and health centers, among others), through the adaptation of sanitation facilities with a gender and diversity approach; to finance feasibility studies for the sanitation of two coastal and tourist localities yet to be determined, probably in the coastal strip of Boca Chica, and to strengthen the capacity of the management unit to be set up at INAPA for the execution of the program.
Likewise, the Council of Ministers authorized another maximum grant of two million Euros for technical assistance linked to the credit operation for the financing of the Program for the Integral and Sustainable Management of Solid Waste in Greater Santo Domingo.
This operation, also under FONPRODE, aims to support the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (MIMARENA) of the Dominican Republic in the area of inclusive recycling, carry out pilot recycling projects with a gender focus in at least three municipalities, and strengthen the capacity of the management unit that will be set up within MIMARENA to implement the program.
