Taiwanese film appreciation course at La Casa Encendida

December 13, 2022
in Leisure, Movies

The Economic and Cultural Office of Taipei in Spain, in collaboration with the Taiwan Film & Audiovisual Institute, Filmadrid, and La Casa Encendida, are organising the Taiwanese film appreciation course Times of Love, Youth and Freedom, which, over four sessions from today to 16 December, delves into one of the most important cinematographies in Asia.

The course will be held on the fourth floor of La Casa Encendida (Ronda de Valencia, 2, Madrid), from 5 to 7 p.m., in person and online, to reach all audiences. Registrations are open until today and can be processed through the website of La Casa Encendida.

Aimed at film buffs, students, film critics and the general public, the course offers, over four sessions, a new look at the work and legacy of the great Taiwanese filmmakers such as Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Edward Yang, Chen Kunhou, Ang Lee and Tsai Ming Liang, creators who have won over international critics throughout their prolific filmography. Each session is divided into thematic areas to explore the production of lesser-known but essential figures in Taiwanese cinema, such as Sylvia Chang, Chang Tso-Chi, and the new figures of Zero Chou and Lim Lung-Yin. The theoretical sessions will be complemented by a cycle of screenings with the aim of providing a new perspective on the work of the authors.

The course will be given by Spanish professionals specialising in film, such as the critic, professor and programmer Javier H. Estrada; the filmmaker, professor and programmer Nuria Cubas, and Gabriel Domenech González, professor and member of the TECMERIN Research Group. The complete programme can be consulted at this link.
