In recent weeks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched the hashtag #diplodato on its Twitter account to clarify the meaning of some frequently used diplomatic terms.

Over the last few days, the account has been providing simple information, for example, on the differences between embassies and consulates and the tasks entrusted to each of them.

It also explains what a laissez-passer is -a document issued by Embassies or Consulates only to return to Spain from abroad- as opposed to the use of passports; or the scope of the so-called diplomatic immunity, which is the set of legal advantages that apply to diplomats in Embassies and Consulates abroad.

He also points out the difference between the Diplomatic Career, which is the body of the Administration made up of Spanish diplomats, and the Diplomatic Corps, which refers to the group of foreigners accredited in Spain.

It also explains that a diplomatic bag is the mechanism for official correspondence, protected and inviolable, between the Ministry and the diplomatic missions. It adds that, among other things, it can contain the foreign vote or passports requested at embassies and consulates.
