After the tender and humane film Girl comes a new masterpiece from Belgian director and screenwriter Lukas Dhont, the film Close, selected to compete at the Oscars for Belgium as Best International Independent Film.
Winner of the prestigious ‘Camera d’Or’ award at the Cannes Film Festival, in this film Dhont mixes promising young talent (children Eden Dambrine and Gustav de Waele) with familiar faces from European cinema. Among them are Belgian actress Émilie Dequenne (winner of the César for Best Supporting Role) and French actress Léa Drucker.
Close explores the close friendship between two thirteen-year-old boys, Leo and Remi. The chemistry between the two children transcends the screen, making for a beautiful, emotional and highly sensitive story. Until an unthinkable event separates them. Léo then approaches Sophie, Rémi’s mother, to try to understand.
