SEDLA is a non-profit cultural society founded in September 2022 by teachers from universities, official language schools and other educational centres where the Arabic language is taught throughout Spain. Although the presentation will take place in person, it will be possible to follow it live on Casa Árabe’s YouTube channel.

The presentation will be opened by Casa Árabe’s assistant director, Cristina Juarranz, and will be attended by members of SEDLA’s Board of Directors: Iñaki Gutiérrez de Terán-Benita, UAM (Presidency); Victoria Aguilar Sebastián, UM (Vice-Presidency); Joana Hernández Martínez, EOI Tarragona (Secretary); Lidia Fernández Fonfría, USAL (Treasurer); Dolores Serrano Niza, ULL (Vocalía 3), who will be connected by video; Sonia Prieto Monteagudo, UCM (Vocalía 2); Said Kirhlani, URJC (Vocalía 3); Mohammad T. Alhawary, U. Michigan and Executive Director of the American Association of Teachers of Arabic (AATA) and Mohammed Dayoub, U. Warwic and member of the British Association of Teachers of Arabic (BATA), the latter two also connected by video.

The main objectives of SEDLA are: (1) to promote and defend the teaching and study of the Arabic language in Spain and Latin America; (2) to collaborate and establish agreements with other Spanish and foreign entities and associations that share the same aims; and (3) to promote training in the field of Arabic language teaching, particularly those aimed at teachers and students at all levels of education.
