Carmelo Angulo, Spain’s former ambassador to Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Bolivia dies

The diplomat Carmelo Angulo, who was Spain’s ambassador to Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Bolivia, died yesterday in Madrid at the age of 75, according to the Francisco Luzón Foundation for the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), of which he was vice-president.

 

Carmelo Angulo, who had an extensive diplomatic career, was also between 2014 and 20178 president of Unicef Spain, director of the Institute for Cooperation and Human Development of the Camilo José Cela University, and coordinator of the National Plan for Business and Human Rights in the Human Rights Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

 

Throughout his diplomatic career, he was also posted to the Spanish Embassies in Mauritania, Canada, Beijing and Tunisia. He was also Deputy Director General for North Africa and the Middle East; Director General for Latin America at the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECI); representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nicaragua and Argentina. He was also Ambassador-at-Large for the Global Microcredit Summit in 2011; and Executive Director of the Spain-Mexico Foundation-Council.
