Until 15 January, the exhibition hall of the Teatro Fernán Gómez. Centro Cultural de la Villa de Madrid (Pl. de Colón, 4), pays tribute to Las Sinsombrero, the group of women belonging to one of the most influential artistic groups in Spanish cultural history, the Generation of ’27.
Within the Generation of ’27 there was a generation of immensely talented women painters, poets, novelists, illustrators, sculptors, thinkers, filmmakers and composers who enjoyed national and international success in their time. They, like their peers of their generation, were part of and witnessed the socio-political events that characterised the Spanish 20th century. As a result, they and their work are an extremely important testimonial source that allows us to gain first-hand knowledge of the vicissitudes of that time, not only from an artistic and intellectual perspective but also from the female point of view, which has rarely been highlighted. With the arrival of democracy, the female genealogy was not granted the category of historical subject. As a result, the opportunity to understand a time in which women were and are the absolute protagonists was lost. This exhibition aims to join the struggle to reverse the official account of the cultural and social history of that period. Without them, history is not complete.
