With the collaboration of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania, Madrid City Council, the Junta Distrito de Retiro and the Contour Art Gallery will inaugurate next Thursday 29 December the exhibition Duende, Contemporary Lithuanian Textile Art, an exhibition of contemporary Lithuanian textile art at Casa de Vacas (Paseo de Colombia 1, Parque de El Retiro, Madrid) in commemoration of the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Spain.
The exhibition, which will be open to the public from 30 December to 29 January 2023, focuses exclusively on contemporary textile works created by internationally renowned Lithuanian artists. This interactive exhibition with spatial objects immerses the viewer in an environment where everything is conceptually related.
Art is something intangible and difficult to define in words. But there is an expression in Spanish, Duende, which precisely refers to the art that is born naturally, that special gift that some artists possess. The concept goes beyond reason; it touches directly on the emotions that this talent provokes in the spectator. As Federico García Lorca says in his lecture Teoría y Juego del Duende “the duende is a power and not a doing, it is a fighting and not thinking”.
