Author: Zanna Sloniowska.

In the heart of Lviv there is a house with a stained glass window. Four women from the same family live there, who love each other as much as they quarrel. Until one day everything changes: Marianna, a famous opera singer, is shot during a protest for Ukrainian independence. Her daughter watches from the window as the funeral procession turns into a demonstration. This is the story of a young woman’s emotional, sexual, artistic and political awakening in a changing city at a crossroads of languages and cultures.

Zanna Sloniowska (Lviv, 1978) is the first writer to receive the Znak Publishers’ Literary Prize. The House with the Stained-Glass Window is a portrait of a city steeped in past and mystery, through a luminous family fresco. The novel has been a literary phenomenon, celebrated by critics and booksellers, and has a long list of prestigious international publishers.
