“This year represents a tremendous milestone in Qatar’s history,” Ambassador Abdalla Al-Hamar said during yesterday’s reception to celebrate its National Day, “as the hosting of the World Cup has allowed people from all over the world to experience our unique history and traditions”.
Al-Hamar stressed that, “since twelve years ago, when Qatar was chosen to host this event, we have progressed as a nation in all aspects, economic, political and diplomatic, and we have progressed in all areas of social development.
Before numerous ambassadors and guests, the ambassador added that “at the same time, Qatar has established itself as a reliable mediator and active contributor to peace, stability and cooperation in countries such as Sudan, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Chad, among others”.
Referring to the “particularly special relationship with Spain“, he stressed that during the official visit of the Emir of Qatar “12 agreements were signed, investments worth 5 billion were committed and the bilateral strategic relationship was strengthened“. He also recalled that his country already had previous investments of 21 billion in Spain.
“Qatar highly values its relationship with Spain, which this year marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and I am optimistic that in the future we can make further progress in our common goals of promoting peace, stability and cooperation,” he said, before mentioning the motto of this National Day – “Our unity is the source of our strength” – taken from the speech delivered by Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
