The Diplomat
The Embassy of Azerbaijan held last Monday an Act of Commemoration to the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The event was attended by compatriots living in Spain and representatives of the media.
In his speech, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Ramiz Hasanov, stressed that “the progress and advances of modern Azerbaijan are directly related to the name of Heydar Aliyev, who devoted a large part of his life to the Azerbaijani people. With his coming to power in 1969, the ambassador continued, he raised Azerbaijan, which was going through a socio-economic crisis, to the level of one of the most advanced republics of the former Soviet Union in the 70s and 80s of the last century. The foundations of state sovereignty and economic independence of modern Azerbaijan were laid in this period”.
Ramiz Hasanov emphasised the fact that “on 15 June 1993, at the request of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev returned to power. Thanks to the wisdom of the National Leader, his significant political experience, his statesmanship and unwavering determination, the young independent Republic, which was on the brink of disaster, after achieving internal and external political stability, entered a new period of development. His great work was highly appreciated by the Azerbaijani people who awarded Heydar Aliyev the high distinction of the National Leader of Azerbaijan.”
“The greatest wishes of Heydar Aliyev, the Azerbaijani ambassador concluded, were the liberation of our ancestral lands and the restoration of territorial integrity. The wish and will of the genius were fulfilled by his successor, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Under his leadership, our tricolour flag began to fly again proudly in the Azerbaijani lands, in the city of Shusha – the cradle of Azerbaijani culture. One of the greatest dreams of the National Leader expressed in his wise words ‘There is no Karabakh without Shusha and Azerbaijan without Karabakh’ has come true: the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan has been guaranteed”.
