The diplomat Manuel Gómez de Valenzuela, who headed six embassies in Arab countries, died last Saturday at the age of 78.

 

After graduating in Law and Philosophy and Letters, he entered the diplomatic career in 1970 and held various posts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in embassies abroad.

 

A specialist in the Arab world, he was ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, where he was also Spain’s representative in Qatar; Mauritania, Syria and Kuwait. He also served as Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassies in Iraq and Algeria, and held the second post in Cairo.

 

He was also Ambassador to Cyprus and wrote numerous publications on the history of Aragon.
