The socialist senator for Seville, vice-president of the Assembly of the Council of Europe and president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Upper House, Antonio Gutiérrez Limones, chaired, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the high-level meetings between the UN and the Council of Europe, which addressed the promotion and improvement of global governance.

In these meetings, participated, among others, the President of the UN General Assembly, Csaba Körösi; the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thérèse Blanchet; representatives of the development plans, the fight against terrorism and the international courts, and the High Representative of the United Nations for the Alliance of Civilizations, and former Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, according to the communication group Prestomedia in a press release.

During his speech, Gutiérrez Limones emphasized the need to bring together the UN and the Council of Europe to improve coordination between both organizations and work together to maintain the world order and the defense of Human Rights.

In this sense, the Sevillian senator indicated that he is working on the drafting of a report aimed at strengthening ties and uniting Latin American organizations with the Council of Europe. “More collaboration, more sharing of values and a tireless struggle for peace are the basis of this project,” he explained.

Antonio Gutiérrez Limones described the meetings held as “very positive” and added that “in this 21st century in which we live we cannot waste time being pessimistic. It is not enough to have democracies: what we need is more democrats to fight for it. This joint work between countries and organizations is a fundamental pillar to build a better Europe”.
