As every Christmas, the Fundación Excelentia programmes the best classical music concerts and typical Christmas music in the best music venues in Madrid for this festive season of the year. These are the main events:
Handel’s ‘THE MESSIAH’.
9 December. 7.30 pm – Auditorio Nacional
One of the most emblematic and majestic works of classical music, on Friday 9 December at 7.30 pm in the Symphonic Hall of the Auditorio Nacional, with the Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia and the Sociedad Coral Excelentia de Madrid, conducted by José Antonio Sainz Alfaro. Soprano Hey-Youn Lee, mezzo Beatriz Oleaga, tenor Víctor Sordo and bass David Cervera will perform. Tickets can be purchased here.
OPERA GALA
10 December. 19.30h – Auditorio Nacional
The Chamber Hall of the Auditorio Nacional de Música dresses up at 19.30 to receive an excellent Opera Gala, with the soprano Ruth Terán, the tenor Miguel Borrallo and the baritone Manuel Mas, together with the pianist Francisco Pérez Sánchez, who will perform such famous pieces as “Una furtiva lagrima” from “L’elisir d’amore” by G.Donizetti; “Je veux vivre” from “Romeo et Juliette” by C. Gounod, “La ci darem la mano” from “Don Giovanni” by W.A.Mozart, “Nemico della patria” from “Andrea Chenier” by U.Giordano, “Un dì felice” from “La Traviata” by G. Verdi, “Figlia, mio padre…” from “Rigoletto” by G.Verdi, “O mio babbino caro” from “Gianni Schicchi” by G.Puccini or “Nessun Dorma” from “Turandot” by G.Puccini. Tickets at this link.
‘LA TRAVIATA’, by Verdi
11 December. 12 noon – Teatro Lope de Vega
On 11 December at 12 noon at the Teatro Lope de Vega, Verdi’s opera La Traviata will be performed in a staged version, undoubtedly one of the most famous operas in the history of music. It is an opera in three acts with music by Giuseppe Verdi and libretto in Italian by Francesco Maria Piave, based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas (son) The Lady of the Camellias (1852). Tickets here.
Directed by José Luis López Antón and starring Letitia Vitelaru (Violetta Valery), José Luis Sola (Alfredo Germont), Daniela Vladimirova (Flora Bervoix), Manuel Mas (Giorgio Germont), among the main roles.
CHRISTMAS GALA
17 December. 12 h – Teatro Lope de Vega
Gran Gala de Navidad at the Teatro Lope de Vega de la Gran Vía in Madrid on 17 December at 12 noon. A unique concert where the most famous Christmas carols of all times will be performed along with other great compositions.
It will feature the Sociedad Coral Excelentia de Madrid and the Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia conducted by Kynan Johns, with tenor José Luis Sola, and soprano Letitia Vitelaru. Tickets at this link.

NEW YEAR’S DAY CONCERT – 2 concerts
26th December. 19.30 h – National Auditorium of Music
1st January 2023. 20 h – Teatro Real
The Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia, conducted by Kynan Johns will perform a wonderful New Year’s Concert, with the classic waltzes of The Blue Danube and the Radetzky March, among many other famous pieces.
