The Diplomat
The European Union Foreign Spouses Association (Eufasa) will hold its XXXIX Conference in Madrid on 5-6 June next year.
The Conference, which will be chaired by the Association of Relatives of Diplomats and Foreign Service Officers of Spain (AFD), will take place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The European Union Foreign Spouses Association, established in 1985, aims to be the conduit for the exchange of information and ideas among its members to improve arrangements for the spouses, partners and families of officials employed by EU Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFAs).
EUFASA seeks to identify effective family support practices in EU countries and to raise awareness of issues affecting officials abroad at both national and European levels.
The Association’s annual conferences, held each year in a different country, address issues such as the employment of spouses and partners abroad, pension arrangements or education, with a particular focus on children with special needs.
It also deals with the consequences of separation and divorce, the problems of foreign-born spouses, legal and health issues, and the possibility of voluntary work by spouses.
EUFASA is currently made up of spouses’ or partners’ associations in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom.
