Casa Árabe, LaLiga and the Instituto Cervantes presented yesterday the Spanish-Arabic Football Dictionary, a new revised and improved edition containing a complete soccer vocabulary in both languages, whose publication coincides with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the first to be held in an Arab country.
The event was attended by the director general of Casa Árabe, Irene Lozano; the director of the Instituto Cervantes, Luis García Montero; and the manager of LaLiga’s MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, Marco de Santis.
This illustrated dictionary includes, among its contents, information on the Spanish league teams and their cities of origin, the different titles and competitions, the players, vocabulary on the field and actions of the game and a wide range of soccer concepts. It also provides additional vocabulary for social interaction between speakers of both languages, such as general conversation guidelines for introducing oneself, talking about the weather, how to get to a place, how to manage in a restaurant, hotel or means of transportation, among other issues of interest.
The presentation is part of Soccer for Hope, a Casa Árabe project which promotes soccer as a tool for social transformation, and is part of the program to celebrate the International Day of the Arabic Language, which will take place on December 18.
