This co-production of Austria, Luxembourg, Germany and France is a biographical drama that tells the story of how at Christmas 1877, Sissi celebrates her 40th birthday and there is no sign of happiness around her. First Lady of Austria, wife of Emperor Franz Joseph, Elisabeth has no right to express herself and must remain beautiful and young, always in her corseted role.
