Fundación Alternativas analyses Iran and the feminist revolution

November 29, 2022
in Culture & Art, Leisure

Tomorrow, Wednesday at 12 noon, Fundación Alternativas will analyse the impact of the massive protests by Iranian women following the murder of young Mahsa Amini on 19 September in Tehran at the hands of the police, which has spread throughout the country.

To what extent can these feminist protests trigger democratising changes in the regime, or lead to fundamental transformations? The conference will attempt to provide the main keys to what is happening: the causes of the protests and their dimension in society, the current situation of Iranian women, the expectations of political change, the possible channels of influence from the Iranian diaspora abroad, and the scenarios that are opening up both internally and regionally: the Middle East and the Persian Gulf.

Taking part in the event are Ángeles Espinosa, journalist and writer, former correspondent of El País in Tehran; Luciano Zaccara, professor at the Gulf Studies Center, University of Qatar; Anahita Nassir, political scientist and expert on Iran, IBO Foundation; and Maryam Eftekharian, Hispanist, translator and teacher of Spanish, English and Persian. Vicente Palacio, Director of Foreign Policy at Fundación Alternativas, will moderate the discussion. The presentation can be accessed on YouTube by clicking on this link.
