The progress and challenges ahead for immigration in Spain were the central themes of the commemorative event of the 30th anniversary of the murder of Lucrecia Perez, which the Embassy of the Dominican Republic held last Saturday at the headquarters of the UGT in Madrid.

The commemorative event began with a speech by Ambassador Juan Bolívar Díaz, followed by a discussion between Juan José Tamayo and Raimundo Aragón Bombín, moderated by Bernarda Jiménez.

The meeting, which was attended by Lucrecia Perez’s daughter, Kenia Carvajal, acknowledged the solidarity with the Dominican community shown by Spanish unions, associations and personalities such as the General Union of Workers, the Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreras, the Asociación Vecinal de Aravaca ‘Osa Mayor’, the Asociación Cultural y Deportiva Rosa Luxemburgo de Aravaca (ACROLA), Rosario Carracedo, Marina Figueroa, Patrocinio de las Heras, Juan José Tamayo and Raimundo Aragón Bombín.

The event concluded with the reading of the poem ‘Ay Lucrecia’ by Marielys Duluc and the interpretation of the songs ‘La tierra escrita’ and ‘Canción para Lucrecia’ by Dominican singer Vianka Ramos, with musical accompaniment by Jorge Robles and Salvador Hernández.

Finally, Ambassador Juan Bolivar Diaz together with the members of the Dominican diplomatic mission in Spain, attended the inauguration of the new monument to Lucrecia Perez in front of the circus that bears her name, in a ceremony presided by the councilor of the district of Aravaca, Loreto Sordo.
