This evening at 7.30 pm, Casa Árabe in Madrid continues with its series of Arab women directors and will be screening the 2021 film A Story of Love and Desire, a fictional story by Leyla Bouzid. Screening in Original Version with Spanish Subtitles (VOSE).

Ahmed is 18 years old, French of Algerian origin and has grown up in the suburbs of Paris. At university he meets Farah, a young Tunisian girl who has recently arrived in Paris. Ahmed falls madly in love with her and discovers a whole corpus of sensual and erotic Arabic literature of which he was completely unaware. Although he is completely overwhelmed by desire, Ahmed will try to resist it.

Leyla Bouzid’s second feature film, after the successful A peine j’ouvre les yeux (2015), set in 2010 just before the Tunisian revolution. In this case, Farah is once again the name of the young protagonist who also embodies desires for emancipation as a woman.
