The ambassador of Luxembourg in Spain, Christian Biever, chaired yesterday the presentation in Madrid of the tourist offer of his country, organized by Luxembourg Tourism, whose CEO, Sebastian Reddeker, underlined his commitment to quality tourism.
The ambassador highlighted the “strong historical ties” that have united Spain and Luxembourg for centuries and recalled that the city of Luxembourg and its old quarters and fortifications were designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994.
The Spanish market is becoming more and more important for this European country, which is increasing the number of Spanish visitors. Currently some 9,000 Spaniards live in the country, which brings together more than 170 nationalities from all over the world.
The total potential of visitors in the Spanish market for the next 3 years amounts to 8 million, with a high interest particularly among young women looking for city and cultural trips, and with a great potential for growth in travelers requesting culinary and nature experiences.
In terms of the origin of tourists visiting the Grand Duchy, the top 3 in number of overnight stays is made up of The Netherlands (471,440 overnight stays), Belgium (351,322 overnight stays) and Germany (288,160 overnight stays).
The European Union represents 85% of the total, the United Kingdom and Asia around 4% and the rest of the world represents less than 8%. The center of the country is the preferred destination, accounting for more than half of the total flow. It is followed by the Ardennes region, Mullerthal and the Moselle.
