From 1 December from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Embassy of Paraguay offers at its headquarters (Calle del Doctor Fleming, 3, 3rd floor 3) the ethnographic documentary film show by Mónica Ismael, entitled Paraguay Nativo (Native Paraguay).
The documentary exhibition is made up of 4 short films that invite the spectator on a journey to the indigenous communities of Paraguay, to observe, for example, in the material of Cesteras Qom Lik how the women develop their artisan work in the construction of utilitarian accessories of extraordinary beauty and an aesthetic configuration of ancestral inspiration.
In Basybuky/ El guerrero yshyr, Paraguay’s first indigenous artist and his son struggle to keep their language and culture alive through shapes and colours. The Yshyr people have been declared endangered by UNESCO. Transguarani shows the life of Sofía, an indigenous trans woman who dreams of dancing in the city in the bush. Ypycuera/Antepasados takes the players of Paraguay’s indigenous national team on their journey to the Copa América.
This audiovisual production has been selected for the BIA 2020 biennial and distinguished internationally for its great educational value, referenced for its honest and unique approach, for a necessary understanding of the indigenous peoples of the entire Latin American region, in a more human and closer sense.
