Last Tuesday, the Council of Ministers authorized two voluntary contributions, amounting to 59,000 euros, to the European Union-Latin America and Caribbean International Foundation (EU-LAC Foundation) and Euroamérica.
On the one hand, the Government will make a voluntary contribution of €50,000 to the European Union-Latin America and Caribbean International Foundation (EU-LAC Foundation), which was created in Madrid in 2010 on the occasion of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean (EU-CELAC Summit) held in Madrid.
The objective of the foundation is to strengthen and promote the bi-regional strategic partnership between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean. In May 2019 it acquired the status of an international intergovernmental organization with the entry into force of its Constitutive Agreement. The Foundation’s activity is organized on the basis of a multi-year work program (2021-2024) and subsequent annual programs, which are approved by its Board of Trustees, composed of all member states. Since 2016, the Foundation has focused on prioritizing activities under the EU-CELAC Action Plan and thus helping to develop the bi-regional partnership.
At the November 2022 meeting of the Board of Trustees, the Foundation’s work program for 2023 will be presented for approval, which will be very focused on supporting and accompanying the holding, after an eight-year hiatus, of a new EU-CELAC Summit, “an objective that fully coincides with Spain’s priorities in view of the Presidency of the European Union” in the second half of 2023, as reported by the Government.
On the other hand, the Council of Ministers authorized a voluntary contribution of Spain to the Euroamérica Foundation, amounting to 9,000 euros. The Euroamérica Foundation is a European organization based in Spain, created in 1999. Its objective is to stimulate cooperation and understanding between European and Latin American institutions, companies and personalities in order to promote, mainly from the private sector, relations between Europe and America and to enhance opportunities for cooperation between the two sides of the Atlantic.
The voluntary contribution to the Foundation contributes to the realization of its activities throughout the year, especially those converging with the priorities of Spain’s foreign policy towards Latin America, now framed in the preparation of the Presidency of the European Union.
