The Spanish government yesterday condemned “in the strongest terms” the explosion of two bombs at two bus stops on the outskirts of the city of Jerusalem that has left at least one person dead and fourteen others wounded.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry also expressed its condolences to the families of the victims of the double bombing and wished the injured “a speedy recovery”. “Israel will always have the support and solidarity of Spain in the fight against terrorism,” the ministry concluded.

The first explosion took place at around 7 a.m. local time in the Givat Shaul neighbourhood. One person was killed and twelve others were injured in the blast, according to ‘The Times of Israel’. The second explosion occurred half an hour later, at the crossroads in the Ramot neighbourhood.

The deceased was identified as Aryeh Schupak, a 16-year-old Israeli-Canadian teenager who was studying at a yeshiva in Jerusalem.

Israel’s prime minister, Yair Lapid, vowed that security forces will capture those responsible. “We will catch them. They can run away, they can hide, but that will not help them. The security forces will catch them,” he said, in a series of social media posts.
