The 117th session of UNWTO Executive Council, which will begin today in Marrakech, Morocco, will focus on sustainability and the transition to green tourism, product development and diversification, innovation, SMEs and digital transformation.
The session, which runs through the 25th of this month, aims to advance tourism recovery around shared goals and a common vision for the sector, where small businesses and local communities must receive the support they need to become true “agents of change,” the UN specialized agency reports in a press release.
During the meeting, the thematic session “SMEs and Talent: Transforming Tourism” will also be held, which will begin with the launch of the Marrakech Call to Action on SME Digitization, whose objective is for member states to confirm their commitment to accelerate the digital transformation of their tourism SMEs and support their recovery.
The ‘UNWTO Digital Futures‘ panel discussion is also scheduled to be held, where Morocco will be the pilot country where the UNWTO Digital Futures program will be implemented for the first time. At the same time, to support startups, UNWTO, SMIT and the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism will launch the National Startup Competition “Invest in the development of Moroccan tourism”.
