Organised in cooperation between the Polish and Ukrainian Embassies, the exhibition Posters for Ukraine/ Posters for Ukraine will be inaugurated next Monday at 4 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Galileo (Calle Fernando el Católico 35, entrance on Calle Galileo). The event will be attended by the ambassadors of Poland, Anna SroKa, and of Ukraine, Serhii Pohorelsev.
The Association of Polish Graphic Designers (STGU), together with their Ukrainian colleagues, has organised an exhibition of 30 posters on the theme of the war being waged across the border in Poland, stating that “the exhibition is a natural gesture of solidarity with our dear friends who were brutally distracted from their daily work as graphic designers and illustrators. We want their voices to be heard, we want to show their feelings and our opposition to the war.”
“The Posters for Ukraine exhibition is a response to the war,” says Filip Tofil, a member of STGU. When peaceful towns and villages were bombed, Ukrainian illustrators and designers called for posters and illustrations to inform about the tragedy in their country. Artists from all over the world responded to the call by creating images about sadness, fear and hatred, calling for an end to the war, showing courage and giving hope.”
The exhibition presents works selected from among several hundred designs submitted to the Association of Graphic Designers of Poland, and from those published in the framework of the poster competition organised by the Pictoric Illustrators Club in Kyiv and the 4th Block association in Kharkov.
The Association of Polish Graphic Designers (STGU) was founded in 2004 on the initiative of a group of designers from Warsaw. Its aim is to defend creative independence and the principles of reliable and professional design, as well as to protect the prestige of the profession of graphic designers. The STGU is dedicated to promoting good practice, speaks out on issues of design ethics, supports social initiatives and actively participates in the debate on the role of commercial graphic designers.
Pictoric Illustrators Club is a group of Ukrainian illustrators founded in 2014. The curators (Oleg Gryshchenko, Anna Sarvira and Olena Staranchuk) invite Ukrainian and international authors to participate in projects whose main goal is to popularise and develop the activity of the Ukrainian illustrators’ community.
The Association of Graphic Artists “4th Block” brings together designers and cultural managers interested in solving environmental problems through art. The association works on a voluntary basis to support and develop creative initiatives in the field of ecology, design and culture. The main task of the association is to organise the triennial environmental poster exhibition “4th Block”.
