Within the framework of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the Václav Havel European Dialogues, the Czech Embassy, in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Spain, presents the event Energy transition – a chance for democracy, Energy independence of Europe in the context of the global situation tomorrow, Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Auditorium of the Fundación Carlos de Amberes.
The event will address the issue of Europe’s energy transition and energy independence in the context of the global situation, which will also be contextualised with the link to the resilience of democracy. The event will also be organised with the support of the Elcano Royal Institute, the Václav Havel Library and the Spanish Association of Energy Women.
The event will be opened by Ivan Jančárek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic; María Ángeles Benítez, Director of the Representation of the European Commission in Spain, and Sara Aagesen Muñoz, Secretary of State for Energy, Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
The first part of the day will open with a discussion on the Future of European energy and energy transition in the current geopolitical context, with Manuel García Hernández, Director General of Energy Policy and Mines, MITECO; Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director of Energy Policy, European Commission, DG ENER; Václav Bartuška, Special Commissioner for Energy Security, Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Gonzalo Escribano, Senior Researcher, Real Instituto Elcano (moderator).
After a coffee break, the second part, entitled Energy security and its implications for democracy, will begin with the participation of Ana Palacio, former Spanish Foreign Minister; Michael Žantovský, Director of the Václav Havel Library; Miguel Ángel Noceda, journalist, economic correspondent of El País, and Lucía Arraiza, Head of Regulatory Coordination, Iberdrola Spain, Spanish Association of Energy Women (moderator).
