The Diplomat
The Embassy of the United Kingdom in Madrid has launched the Ambassador for a day competition, aimed at girls between 14 and 18 years old from all over Spain and whose objective is to promote female leadership among young women through diplomacy.
The competition, organized by the United Kingdom representation in collaboration with the Embassies of Germany, Australia and Canada, aims to give five young women from all over Spain “the opportunity to be ambassadors for a day and learn what diplomacy is all about”, as well as to “bring the traditionally male-dominated world of diplomacy closer to young women”, so that “they become agents of change from an early age”.
To this end, the participants will have to express their opinions on the problems affecting their neighborhoods, cities or towns throughout Spain, “playing an active role in bringing about positive change”. The contestants must send their opinions, through this link, in written format (maximum 350 words), in Spanish or English, before November 25.
A panel of representatives from the organizing Embassies will review the applications and announce the winners in December. The five lucky winners will be invited, in February or March 2023, to spend the day at the Embassies of the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and Canada in Madrid, where they will carry out various activities and learn first-hand about the work of several diplomats, whom they will be able to accompany for a day.
