Last October 30, the Embassy of India, along with the India Club and the Athletic Centre of IE University, held the Run for Unity in celebration of the Rashtriya Ekta Divas (National Unity Day).
The National Unity Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, renowned freedom-fighter and the first Home Minister of India. He played a crucial role in the political integration of India and hence this occasion is an opportunity to re-affirm the inherent strength and resilience of the nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of the country.
Ambassador Dinesh Patnaik flagged off the Run for Unity which took place over a 5 km track around the Lago de Casa de Campo. Over 100 runners participated enthusiastically in the run. The winners were Carlos Antelo (Men’s) and Josefina Schlieper (Women’s) while participation medals were awarded to all the runners.
