The Instituto Cervantes and the Casa Mediterráneo Consortium have signed an agreement to carry out joint activities for the dissemination of Spanish culture in the Mediterranean area.
The agreement was signed on October 17 by the general director of Casa Mediterráneo, Andrés Perelló, and on October 20 by the director of the Instituto Cervantes, Luis Manuel García Montero, and aims to establish the conditions of collaboration between the two institutions “for the development of various activities on the dissemination of Spanish culture in the Mediterranean area, as well as the dialogue of the cultures that make it up, without forgetting the linguistic aspects that may arise from such activities,” as published last week in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
The Instituto Cervantes is a public organization whose main objectives are the promotion of the Spanish language and the dissemination of culture abroad. Casa del Mediterráneo is a public consortium formed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Generalitat Valenciana and the City Councils of Alicante and Benidorm, whose objective is to promote mutual knowledge and rapprochement between Spain and the rest of the countries of the Mediterranean basin in various areas, including culture and scientific and technological innovation.
Under the agreement, conferences, forums and meetings will be scheduled in order to meet the main objectives of the agreement, such as collaboration and the celebration of cultural activities related to the Mediterranean Plan of the Cervantes Institute (and in particular the cycle Camusian Evenings. It will also strengthen digital preservation projects of cultural funds that are of common interest to both institutions, the dissemination of publications and projects of Casa del Mediterráneo, the promotion of exchanges and bridges with the literary creation of the Mediterranean area, training for cultural professionals, librarians and users in access to information and the organization of cultural and academic initiatives in the Mediterranean area.
For the development of the activities included in the fulfillment of the agreement, the parties will contribute a total of 70,000 euros divided equally, distributed, by each of the two institutions, in 5,000 euros in 2022, 15,000 euros in 2023 and another 15,000 euros in 2024.
