The new Ambassador of Sudan to Spain, Maha Suleiman Taha Ayoub, presented last week at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Copies of her Letters of Credence, before the ambassadors’ introducer, María Sebastián de Erice.

Maha Suleiman Taha Ayoub replaces Mohamed Abdalla Abdelhameed Ahmed, who had been in Madrid since May 2015.

The new ambassador, who was serving in Khartoum in Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is one of the few women who have made their way in diplomacy in her country, which she has represented in various destinations.

Born in Boston, Maha Ayoub grew up in the United States, Britain, Sudan, Iran, Oman, Italy and Egypt, and also lived in France, Tunisia and Russia. Her extensive career includes a year as a volunteer in Darfur with displaced communities and refugees, and several assignments with UN organisations in humanitarian aid and sustainable development. She is fluent in English, Arabic, French, Italian and Russian, and has expressed a desire to learn Spanish as soon as possible.

Maha Ayoub received her university education at the American University in Cairo, and also studied in Paris at the Institute of Public Administration, as well as at Moscow State University. She trained in painting and fine arts at the Glazunov Academy in Moscow and has always been very interested in issues related to development in Africa, gender equality, human rights, literature, art, sport and history, the Sudanese Embassy told The Diplomat.
