The exhibition 40 años del 23-F: El triunfo de la democracia (40 years since 23-F: The triumph of democracy) will be on display at the headquarters of the Partido Socialista Español (PSOE) until 5 March next year, in the Pedro Zerolo space of the Socialist Party’s federal headquarters on calle Ferraz, 68-70.
Special editions of the press, images of the storming of Congress and the massive demonstrations that took place days later throughout Spain in defence of freedom and democracy, the Acts of Congress and other curiosities of that day, are part of this exhibition.
Of particular documentary value are the Acts of Congress which can be seen and which reproduce the moment of the interruption of the investiture session of Calvo Sotelo as President of the Government. They record the precise moment in which a group of civil guards, under the orders of Lieutenant Colonel Tejero, burst into the Chamber by force.
The audiovisual material includes the images recorded by the cameras of Televisión Española which at the time were broadcasting the plenary session of Congress, the speech of King Juan Carlos I which was broadcast that morning, and the photographs which the photographers managed to take of the Congress building and which made the front pages of newspapers around the world.
